The celebrated Brazilian
cocktail. The "real thing", that is, Caipirinha with cachaça is the best,
in my humble opinion. But there are variations like Capiroska (with
vodka), Capirissima (with rum), Capisake (with sake). Instead of lime, you
can make Caipirinha with kiwi, strawberry, passion fruit, tangerine and
with a combination of fruits. Nowadays, there are various ways of having a
Caipirinha. My personal choice is still the original: with lime and
cachaça. Here it goes:
Ingredients:
1 dose cachaça (1/4 to 1/3 of glass)
1 lime
3 tbsp.
sugar
ice (small and medium sized chips)
Directions:
Cut 1/2 the lime into slices
and 1/2 into wedges. Put the slices and 2 tbsp. sugar in a short glass and
mash them. Squeeze the juice from some of the wedges in. Add chipped ice
till glass 3/4 full. Add a couple of the squeezed lime wedges
and tbsp. sugar and pour the of cachaça over them. Caipirinha is meant to
be stirred as you drink, it should be sweet yet tart so stir the sugar up
from the bottom often.
Note: Cachaça is an
liquor made from sugar cane.
